My Death Wish List – After Death Guide

 

Create your own estate inventory and make your funeral wishes known.  Adapt the template we’ve named – ‘My Death Wish List’ to your specific needs.  This document gives you the opportunity to list your responsibilities, in order to communicate your needs to those who are most likely to take care of the arrangements in the event of your death, (e.g. the funeral, children, pets, bills, etc).  It will help others handle your affairs in the way that you would like things to be done.

 

We recommend filling in a ‘My Death Wish List’ prior to drawing up your will, as it could help you to remember all the details you would like to name in your last will and testament.  Please note: This document is not a will.  It is full of all the useful details that are usually not included in a will.

Important note:  Keep in mind the sensitivity of the information that you include in your ‘Death Wish List’.  This document is to be handled with care.

 

The first half of ‘My Death Wish List’ needs to be in the hands of a few close friends and family while you are alive, to be acted on immediately when the time comes.  It will serve no purpose hidden in a safe, (where it is usually only found after the funeral when it is too late to act upon).

 

The second part of the document should only be given to the most trusted relatives/friends, with instructions for them to keep it in a safe place where no-one else will find it.  If you find the information too sensitive, and do not wish to give certain parts of this document to anyone while you are alive, then make it clear where they will be able to find the remaining information, when the time comes.
